A recent Ask Slashdot posted an interesting question to ponder: If you didn’t have to work for money, what would you do with your time? I orignally misread the question, thinking that we were being asked, “What would you do if everyone didn’t have to work for money?” But still, it proves an interesting question.

My answer? Work. While at first the notion of not having to work for money seems like a dream, there will always be an exchange of goods and services. Case in point, how are you going to entice someone to build you a house, fly you to Spain, grow produce, or sew your clothing? If nobody needs money, what would they work for? They’d work for what you have to offer them. It could be some kind of services you provide or goods you yourself produce in exchange for something else. The point is, the word “money” is a very broad term when used in this context, or at least the way I took it.
