Pretty cool movie news: A ‘Goonies’ sequel has stepped even closer to likelyhood.
Anyone who hasn’t seen the movie ‘The Goonies’ usually doesn’t quite get why it has reached such a cult status amongst many who have seen it. And then there are certainly some who’ve seen the movie and thought it was just OK or simply downright sucked. So, what makes the movie so “magical?”
Here’s the thing — the movie isn’t that great. I certainly see its flaws and complete silliness. What made it great for me is how it touched on various aspects of my childhood, and at just the right time in my life when I first saw it. It was a time when I was perhaps longing a bit for what days were like when I was younger, and this movie brought those back.
The rainy days with friends scheming together for some sort of adventure, everyone living within a bike ride away. Finding unexpected treasures in attics. Getting closer to the girl-next-door. Forget about the rest of the movie; the tone, scenery and sets alone are enough to keep this on my top cult-classic movies list.
What else is on that list of mine? It’s probably a pretty long list …
